[He had a minute to let everything sink in. Now? Time to panic.]

[ three words, but york gets a sense of tone from them and. something happened.
he replies quickly, speed over eloquence. ]

what's wrong?

[He tries several ways to start the text, ranging from an explanation to a request to meet, but none of it sounds right. None of it feels real. In the end, he picks something that he knows will get the sentiment out.]

don't really want to be alone.

come over, then. unit 1.

[he forgets to tell him he's on his way; he just gets up and goes. it'll be too much of a pain to cover up, so he just prays that when he comes home later, everybody will be asleep.

[when he reaches the door, he doesn't knock; he knows york has others rooming in that unit. he sends another text.]

i'm here

[ It had been important to York to stick as close to North as he could, so yes, he moved into the only unit with space left on the floor, even though it was already occupied. Things have been fine so far -- he adores Diana and Kirk seems cool enough. North could have knocked but a text works, York moves swiftly to open the door for him.

He was already worried, and then the first thing he sees is the bruise on North's cheekbone. His brows knit together and he reaches up, almost touching the mark before his fingers curl in. He doesn't want to hurt North worse, but-- ]

Holy shit. What happened?

[North brings his hand up to give him a bit of pause.]

I asked for it.

[That's the only thing he can think to say, but it's the literal truth. He told Wash to hit him.]

I'm fine, I cleaned up a bit ago.

Literally, I take it?

[ Since North isn't the type to ask for it by being a jerk. York's still frowning but he drops his hand and steps back to let his friend in properly. ]

It's swollen. I'll get you some ice, come in.

Literally.

[He steps inside, and he'll let York lead him over to the kitchen, not feeling like taking charge right now.]

[ It only takes a minute to wrap some ice in a towel, and York hesitates before reaching up with his other hand to hold North's head steady. Pressing the makeshift icepack to his cheek. ]

You gonna tell me who?

[ He says it lightly enough, but there's the real concern he might go after whoever it was, at least to confront them about it. ]

... Wash.

[He knows there's concern, but he also knows York respects him. He doesn't have to just let that happen.]

It was necessary. [He continues while he reaches up to take the ice pack so he can hold it up himself.] And it worked.

...it worked? Maybe I should let him punch me in the face, too, then.

[ He lets North take the icepack, stepping back and leaning on the kitchen counter. ]

But that's not why you're here?

No, it's... it's not.

[North settles against the counter next to him, one eye closed for the pressure under it from the bag, and the other's gaze cast to the floor.]

... Some things came out in the argument we had. Things... I didn't know about. Haven't experienced.

[ York has a sinking feeling that this is gonna be about South. Who he hasn't been terribly kind to since she arrived, honestly. He can't. He just... can't even look at her.

He sighs through his nose, decides to let North be the one to bring things up. He's not gonna guess and maybe dump more on the other man if he's wrong. ]

...you want to take this to my room?

[North nods to him, assuming that if he's offering, Carolina's not there.

[The worst part is, he doesn't know about South's betrayal. He doesn't know about the circumstances surrounding either of their deaths. He just knows they happened, he assumes it was the Meta, and he knows he failed to keep his sister safe.]

Come on. And keep that ice on.

[ York turns, leading North to the appropriate door in the suite. Inside it's tidy and clean, and there's a little potted plant on the nightstand -- Diana's touch. Nothing stands out as it being his and Carolina's room.

He closes the door behind North and gestures for him to sit down. The bed's comfy enough. ]
